CLAUDINE – Playlist
To kick off the faves we have a new track from a band called Claudine who make their debut here with us, it starts off with an organ part which is joined by drums played on brushes, as well as some great guitar tones, this song had me from the get go. I like the title as playlists are my favourite thing to create! The vocals are wistful, and according to Shazam this is recorded live. This is the kind of song that you’d expect to hear on an an early morning drive on the radio, it just sets the tone up for the day!
This is a song that’s been released on bandcamp and subvert, it’s the first song I’ve come across that’s on the subvert platform as it goes, I will be interviewing someone in the future from Subvert if I can get hold of them!
Claudine are a band from Cardiff and according to a quick google search this song was born out of late night kitchen demos, it’s a reflection on the DIY nature of the band.
They are also my ones to watch.

DEE FITZ – Screen Time
The chances of a song relating to technology being in the faves and consecutive are quite rare and I like those coincidences. The thing that caught my attention about this track is that relentless bassline, but then it serves a purpose because the chord progression it follows makes this my track of the week. I love the snare roll, this song is catchy as hell!
This song is about social media, a sensitive subject for many reasons given that musicians are put under enormous pressure to create content to feed the beast and it can get taxing, especially when you are forced to compare yourself to others. Dee drops in things that comes across our newsfeed like war in the east and hate in the west… It’s quite a stark picture no pun intended.
Dee Fitz is an artist from Galway, she’s been 6x song of the week on 2FM.
InstagramJOSH PAVEY – The Weight
This track from Josh Pavey is very poignant as it’s about losing his grandmother – I played this on the show recently, and I connected with it immediately and it seems that it connected with our fab readers too. This is about how it impacted his family referencing his dad and his aunt (I think). He talks about being a pallbearer for his grandmother and feeling his dad shaking as they go along. The line that’s really poignant is somewhere inside a little boy is crying for his mother he prays for a chance to tell her that he loves her. He also talks about Lynn and how she’s grieving but holding it together, and how much she wants to tell her mother she loves her.
Having gone through grief recently I know how this feels and it it really is one of those songs that illustrates those stages perfectly.
This is Josh’s debut single, and what a choice for it! He is a singer songwriter from Hampshire.

KORDA KORDER – Edge Of The World
Korda Korder actually made the faves back in March this year and seem to be a favourite among our readers, this is a gentle track built around guitars, drums, bass and vocals, which dips and peaks. This song is about seeing everything and experiencing everything that you can in your life – walking to the edge of the world to rediscover yourself only to come back to just to get a little normality but not ready to talk about it. What I like about this song is the gentleness of the guitars and the fact that Korda Korder have done away with the need to keep the drums throughout the track but when they’re there it makes a big difference.
Korda Korder are a band from Brighton, and have had the nod from John Kennedy at Radio X, and Huw Stevens at BBC 6 Music.

One thing I’m loving is the fact that FOTN seems to be getting attention from the US right now, Adelide from New York City and now LUIS from LA. This track is built around a hip hop beat, very sparse in production. It’s a song about what happens after a relationship ends and the remainder of things like a coffee cup, and a blue hoodie, this reminds me of Take That’s I Want You Back in lyrical content even though they’re very different in style, but the sentiment is still there.
Luis is based in LA as noted and is a student at the Los Angeles Film School For Music Production.

PACIFICAZE – Bloom
Pacificaze originally made our Alt Picks Batch 595 back in January as picked by John Michie, and they’re back with a track that’s both cinematic and indie rock at the same time, it starts off with a synth pad at the beginning before three hits on the snare and kick then we are off to the races. There are violins in there too which punctuate the guitar riffs as an answer. I like the delays on the chorus, so it means that the wait for you rings out. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again a mix and master can make or break a song, and this really makes the song elevating an already great tune!
Pacificaze are from Liverpool and illustrate my belief that the Mersey has something to do with the talent that the city births, there’s something in the water that makes them give the world annoyingly good songs.

PECQ – Freer
Time for a track that’s full of fluid synths and beats, this has a two step feel to it, but what I like about it most is the vocals, it’s gentle and wispy against the backdrop of heavy going drums and synths. I get the feeling the vocals were sampled for the intro to give it that lush pad effect. I love the bass sound too, this is the kind of track you’d expect to listen to on a Sunday afternoon – If I’m honest this is chart worthy.
LOVE the subdrop!
PECQ are a London based duo and originally started out life in a Paris basement. They are Hannah Jacobs, synth player for Arlo Parks and Barry Can’t Swim and Niko O’Brien an engineer who’s worked with Liz Fraser and Pori.
This track gets my chef’s kiss.

Ruby Gill led the faves this week with the highest amount of votes this week, and deservedly so. This is piano drums and bass led, and it’s sparse but that gives her room to breathe. It’s a mid tempo track, and the lyrics present an interesting picture:
I can picture someday
When we’re older and we’re numb,
When every wound don’t weep like it’s open
And you can close the door
Without feeling like you’re trapped
And I can speak the thing that is hurting
Right now it feels like
And then it goes into an element of the story where Ruby is taking about the state of the union as it were, and what it’s like right now, it’s autobiographical as she’s talking about when she first got together with her partner and how things were but she maintains the hope that as they get older it would be easier, and I love that optimistic tone in the outset – Kind of like the looking forward into the future that When I’m 64 has.
Ruby is a South African born Australian singer songwriter this is from her album Fishing Isn’t About Fishing (I have so many questions about this title.) She’s about to hit the road for a tour!
SAYTR PLAY – This Calling
Saytr Play come to us with a great indie rock track layered with guitars panned left and right and that’s what got me interested in this track. That and the reference to landlines.
WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY???
I jest of course I’m probably older than they are, but this track is great, layered with harmonies and positive energy. It starts off with electric guitars and indie rock energy then stripped back to acoustic guitars and tambourines for the outro.
Unplugged version maybe for future release?
Saytr Play are an indie pop band who started out life in Preston but are now based in Manchester.

To close the faves we have a track that’s graced with a reggae groove, the vocals are packed with the soulful harmonies so it’s quite a crossover. It kind of reminds me a little of Damien Marley’s welcome to jamrock era album. It’s very classy in terms of production, and I like that about this track. There’s a soprano sax on here that gives it that sophistication.
We don’t get enough reggae in the inbox so it’s good to see this here, I’m glad that the listeners voted this one in, all in all a solid top ten!
Yann Gaudeuille is from Belgium, and he’s a singer songwriter producer and multi instrumentalist.
