Blog interview: Samuel Oscar

Hello Samuel how are you?

I am great, thank you for asking!

Congratulations on the release of “I Need Your Love” how does it feel?

Thank you very much! I feel scared and excited to hear what everyone thinks about it.

It’s from your album “Happy Ending Fantasy”, what was it like recording the whole project?

It was pretty exciting, got to work with a lot of talented people.  It felt like I was finally making the songs that fits my style.

What’s your favourite track from it?

Agh, I don’t think I will be able to answer that one, as they are all great!

What was the easiest and most challenging part of putting it together?

The easiest was gathering and creating all the songs for the album and lining them up in an order following a timeline of the album. Hardest part was that I needed to take some songs out because initially it had like 16-17 songs.

You are an artist with quite a heritage how did it all begin for you?

I remember when I was like 13-14 years old and I wanted to become a famous rockstar haha.  At the time, my family had this old beat up acoustic guitar at home where I would always play air guitar to my favourite songs and not know how to actually play the guitar.  At some point my mom would be pretty fed up and forced me to take guitar lessons at 15.  Ever since then, I fell involve with creating music and recording it.

What did you listen to growing up?

A mix of genres, to be honest. My mom would listen a lot to The Beatles to 90s slow rock bands to Robbie Williams. My dad would listen to some slow rock Thai bands and my sister would listen to 2000s music like Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys etc.   Plus, I had my own kind of playlist where I listened a lot to Paramore, Good Charlotte, all that punk rock stuff.

You’ve garnered a huge following on social media, what’s surprised you the most on your journey so far?

That my listeners still tell me how much they like my songs from two years ago or even a song I made as the first release on Spotify. I love that so much and it brings me honestly so much joy.

You’ve covered songs that could be considered sacred scripture by fans of the original works, how do you usually pick the covers you sing?

Haha I never thought about it like that, but in general I just pick the songs I really love to sing to.  The lyrics as well always seem to be a big factor as well.

From the time you started working on the album, to its release what’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself?

That music is the only way that I can express how I feel and that showing my vulnerability to the world is okay.

What are you listening to at the moment?

A lot of Omar Apollo, I am one of those people that listen to the song over and over again, so specifically it’s “Invincible” such. Beautiful song and the feeling of it feels so dancey at the same time.

What are you looking forward to doing in 2024?

Concerts. I would love to do some kind of stage performing with a full band this year, it would be such dream.
