Single Review: “Shadow” – Marie Keane

Marie Keane – “Shadow”

WHOAH.

The funk is strong with this one.

This is Marie Keane’s lead single from her upcoming album “MNÁ”.

And you know what?

It’s INCENDIO. That’s fire in Portuguese.

Why?

Well, the Latin percussion with claps that ring takes you from Marie’s native Ireland to the streets of Brazil with the infectious groove, and it brings the heat especially with Marie’s confident soulful vocal.

The song struts, deploying a funky bassline, strong drums that just make you want to dance…

This song could have easily come out of the notorious underground discos of New York City in the 1970s, before the birth of disco proper.

It just bangs.

Now, remember what I said about it strutting?

The video illustrates this really well, with Marie bursting out what look like church ruins into a field covered with drone shots, it’s dizzying but the cinematography is beautiful.

So…. Who’s Marie Keane?

Good question.

Marie Keane is a singer-songwriter with idealistic themes, heavily influenced by environmental protection and shifting societal paradigms. She cherishes the mundane, explores the profane and celebrates the individuation of existence.

This eclectic mix of folk blues rock is infused with subtle classical and traditional undertones.
