Track Of The Day: “Groove Is In The Heart” – Deee-Lite

Throwback Track Of The Day “Groove Is In The Heart – Deee-Lite.
@theonlyjosie reminded me that this track was 35 years old. I remember the year it came out, it was a heady time, it was pre Madchester, Oasis were still in nappies and Grunge was still in the Delta Quadrant. This further brought the possibilities of how samples could be used as laid out by hiphop in its infancy and also incorporated the found sounds…kazoo anyone? Of course @bootsy_collins brings the space age vibe and the beautiful @theladymisskier sings – she’s got soul, with a touch of opera and maybe a little bit of yodelling – whatever it is – she’s got it – add to this her cohorts Towa Tei and DJ Supa Dimitry. This track is based around a sample of Herbie Hancock’s Bring Down the Birds and also features a rap from @qtiptheabstract – the more I read about this track the more I love it…

The psychedelic video really adds to it not to mention the playfulness, like the mouth pop and the rubber lips blow out – it’s like you’re seeing the 60s play out again 20 years later. Everything about this track is infectious and designed to set dancefloors alight, if you have never seen @nph and @cobiesmulders perform their dance routine to this in How I Met Your Mother – find it watch it love it.
