Graham Graham Beck has dropped a new album and this is one of the tracks from it. It even comes with a video, and as is Graham’s trademark both the song and video are packed full of quirks.
This song is an ode to what is known to be the world’s oldest joke shop in God’s own country and Graham’s home town of Hull. @pearl.hearson do you know it??? @anorthernsoul70 too. Using synths and guitars Graham puts together a simple instrumental and describes this also mythical joke shop full of different oddities – chattering teeth, nails through fingers, jack in the box, vampire fangs, severed hands, it sounds like the kind of place that used to be on high streets past and reminds me of the fancy dress shop that’s near me. Underneath this all there’s a real story about how life is a joke shop.
The song is odd and has a catchy chorus that will stick with you but that’s what Graham does, and if it’s not then he’s not done his job properly. You have to listen to his music and disappear into a surreal world for a bit to escape the madness for a bit!
