The Music Of Sound have had a busy old year! A member not joining the band but rejoining the band making them a quartet, music videos and of course new releases. I have a personal investment in this band as I’ve helped them shoot their videos in and around London and it’s helped me to hone a skill that I’d long forgotten about in the late 90s.
This song is essentially a protest song speaking out fearlessly against the rise of the right wing movements in the UK and around the world, and unchecked this could pose a danger to the world at large. The person that this is aimed at is not exactly hidden in the truth of it (Watch the video to find out!), but it’s a very powerful message to warn those around you to keep an eye out.
Musically, this begins with an a cappella section which is what attracted me to the song initially – it’s a complex part that catches you off guard when you first hear it. There’s a drum fill, and the main vocals come in, as well as the flute, piano and bass. It’s all wrapped up in sweetness and light but the reality of the message is glaring and it’s not going away.
Danger Danger, there’s a faker on the loose again
Danger Danger, spreading lies is their normality
Getting stranger, you disguise this as morality
Getting plainer that this hater’s getting more insane
Once you know what the song is about – go back and read the chorus – we’ve been here before – the fascism has come and gone over the years and the faces have changed – there’s an irony in there somewhere -but the evil they spout is still there.
Music Of Sound is a UK based dreampop band led by composer, musician, ICMP lecturer, radio host, and fellow Fresh On The Net moderator Neil March, with vocalist Sherin – another team member from FOTN, who also is a whizz at video editing and helped me come up with the one minute tea breaks, Ellie on flute, and introducing aforementioned new member Aniya on additional keys and vocals.
They will be hitting the road in 2027, and to say that I’m very proud of what they’ve achieved so far is an understatement.
