A jazz instrumental to kick off a dreary Monday morning, this is a track by a quartet from a multinational quartet, this is melodic, combining drums, bass, guitar and piano, it reminds me a little bit of Bob James. The into starts off with a piano playing a deceptively simple melody before being joined on guitar, and drums where they fall into a comfortable rhythm, my favourite part of this is the double bass at 1:08 it’s soul stirring stuff you wouldn’t think that it’s capable of of those notes but it really is.
Being Human are REALLY good at what they do. This is from their double single release which came out on 1st October.
Bringing together Mercury Prize-nominated Scottish pianist Fergus McCreadie, acclaimed Lithuanian guitarist Mindaugas Stumbras, and a celebrated Tuscan rhythm section complete with Michelangelo Scandroglio (LVDF) and Mattia Galeotti, ‘Being Human’ are a group united by a musical language that reaches beyond geography – folding the folk traditions of their respective homes into lyrical contemporary jazz, vivid melodic storytelling and free-flowing improvisation. Composed by McCreadie, ‘Winter Song’ is based around a cyclical, never-ending melody, nodding to the harmonic language and mood of the late, great Kenny Wheeler and encapsulating the crisp setting of a a winter frost.
