It’s been a minute since I reviewed Dictator, so I was happy to see this track on my releases for the week. This track starts off with their usual energy, it chugs along with a great intro with a guitar, and vocals before going full octane!
What caught my attention is the driving beat, it’s loosely based on early 90s indie rock rhythms, and I like the fact that it stops and starts to give the track dynamics – like it needed it in the first place. The passing through of filters to bring it down and up again is genius, also the use of soundscapes that are hidden within the track keeps things interesting.
What do I mean? Well for instance, between the drums and bass come in there’s a glitch, showing you the transitions, it happens a couple of times, filling in the spaces it gives it a trippy experience and that’s fine, I like that, and I also like the tape stop at the end!
In all I’m glad that Dictator are back.
