What a way to kick off 2025! This song has got all the good stuff in, at the beginning it’s got a nice little synth glitch like as if it’s an audio tag. A synth bass that’s got a bit of warp comes in over a hip hop beat that’s got a little bit of swing to it. With the drums, there are some nice little surprises in there – for example there’s a reversed tom effect in there plus timbale rolls that could come from reggae or Latin. The feel on this track is bang on, add to that some strings that have vibrato on them – I wonder if this has been influenced by Portishead? The vocoder vocals at 2:09 are my favourite part of the song, it gives it a daft punk feel, this shows me that @dictatorband are drawing on multiple influences here!
If this is how they plan to do things going forward then I’m all for it!
Dictator made the fresh faves back in December 2024, I reviewed their track “Figure It Out” which stood out to me because of its swagger.
I’ve just had it from them that this isn’t directly influenced by Portishead but upcoming tunes are.

Dictator are from Edinburgh Scotland, and say they are less artsy more fartsy.
That made me chuckle.
