Review: “Haunted House Party” – The Scribes

The Scribes are a brilliant hip hop band from Bristol, and they just dropped a track and video “Haunted House Party”, all recorded and edited during lockdown. There is so much I can say about this, under normal circumstances, you could imagine a slick video for this but as indie artists are taking control of their own destiny, the DIY element of this works really well – glitchy effects, performing to a cast of of animated cuddly toys who essentially are not animated but being controlled by what I assume are the band. I love this. It’s set up in a bedroom turned club and each MC takes their turn to deliver their bars – the glitchy effects really work for me, a real disruptor.

Let’s talk about the track. And what a track. The beat is slick, which is a great straight  the verses, are rapid fire, this coming from a band who made me stop in the middle of the street when I heard a bar about Eastenders. It’s got a boom bap beat, pitched down vocals, giving you that “haunted, ghostly” effect, and really gives it an otherworldly feel.

My verdict? Another banger. Keep it coming gents. Check out our interview here.
