Single Review: “Solve” – Izzy Withers

PSA: I’ve said this so many times and I will never stop saying it.

When @kwamekwaten sends you an artist you listen. And he always hits the spot.

ALWAYS.

This then, is no different, this is the new single from Izzy Withers, and she’s a natural born storyteller with her lyrics.

“I tried to solve it all,
Stepped on stones,
I stood at the station
No trains coming home.”

This could be seen as knowing that you’ve failed. The part about stepping on stones resonated with me because stones can be slippery even though they can get you from a to b, but it’s not an easy path. This song is full of hope, because even though you fall, there’s always time to figure out your next move.

That’s my interpretation anyway.

Musically, this is so soulful, I like the reversed synth at the beginning, it gives way to piano, bass, drums and guitar with an organ underneath… my favourite bit is at around the 1:54 mark where she seems to go acapella with her harmonies – also the guitar solo at 3:13 to fade it out.
