Single Review: “Big Dipper” – Vulfpeck

Well! Vulfpeck dropped fire again. I mean it’s Vulfpeck… what do you expect? Just to give you a bit of background, I get recommended tracks from everywhere. There are the usual sources, instagram, Spotify release radar, going through the FOTN inbox, Apple Music, the precious PRs, pluggers, record labels, other bloggers… but this one? This one came from my buddy George. He introduced me to the wonder that is Dean Town. When the mood needs to be lifted he will drop that in my spirit and he knows. He KNOWS! That I cannot resist that bassline.

YouTube it. Your life will never be the same.

Anyway on to this new one, this track is full of gospel flavour – I thought it was my music app playing a trick on me, but I had to double check. It’s got all the hallmarks of a gospel tune, with fantastic vocals in there, layered with great arrangements. There’s an offbeat vibe, it kind of reminds me of Kirk Franklin.

This song is all about encouragement – you’ve got to push yourself right to the limit. Chasing what you want and pushing past the pain to get to the goal.

The chorus is uplifting – big dipper help me find the way… it’s also got the stops and starts. This song is full of joy! I love the Motown vibe at 1:26. The adlibs are pure fire! Wow!

This is the perfect way to start the day.

Vulfpeck are incredible.
