Track Of The Day: Adelide – Circles

I was so happy when this made the Listening Post and faves! It was one of those songs that takes you back in time – the first clue is the cassette player opening up, before going into a song that’s got the Roland D-50 bells that were so popular back in 1987-89. It’s scary to call it vintage now, because I remember hearing those sounds and thinking how fresh they were. But that’s how far old school it goes – the rest is all very 21st century.

This song is about having that kind of deja vu feeling about someone, that makes you feel things, the heartbeat when they’re not there, fighting denial of wanting that person to be there even though you know it’s wrong, but it’s inevitable.

The musicality in this song is strong, there are breakdowns, perfectly executed instrumental performances, and is worthy of being called an indie pop song in the highest standard.

Adelide is from Brooklyn and specialises in songs that feature twinkly synths and guitars.
