Single Review: “Some Birds Don’t Fly” – Gotts Street Park

This has such a nice warmth around the production, it feels like it has been recorded using analogue. This is pure soul transporting you back to the early 70s with that vocal. With every listen I suspect that a mellotron was involved for that flute sound that’s being played. If you don’t know what that it is it’s the instrument that the Beatles used at the beginning of Strawberry Fields Forever it could be argued that it’s an early version of a sampler as it uses recordings of instruments on tape to be played back by a keyboard. It’s kitsch as anything but hey people have made hit records out of it.

There’s a psychedelic vibe to this too especially in the chorus and maybe it’s just the heat but this is perfect for a summer’s day!

GOTTS STREET PARK are a trio from Leeds, this track marks their return to releasing music in three years, they are also playing The Roots Picnic’s first London event.

I’m a big fan of The Roots.

I like these guys too.
