Let’s get this out of the way. I’m a Swifty. This is the second track of hers that I’ve reviewed this year. I know that the media and the world at large tends to have a love hate relationship with her but that’s their problem. They’ll find someone else to love to hate eventually.
Ms. Swift seems to have a crazy work ethic, straight off a gruelling record breaking tour she’s dropped a new album, “The Life Of A Showgirl” which could be seen as a post tour reflection given the title.
With the song I’ve chosen, this song seems to comment on the light and dark side of celebrity, the comments about her celebrity status, her life out for the world to see. She recognises her place in the world but also recognises that she’s part of a bigger picture. Her family. Hence why this is called Eldest Daughter.
This is a piano led ballad, joined by guitar and bass keeping it simple.. I love the bridge for the layered harmonies it’s such an emotional lift.
Beautiful work Ms Swift.
