
This song is one of those ones you’re supposed to have with your morning cuppa. It starts off with a cymbal swell, then Naima Girou comes in with this beautiful BEAUTIFUL vocal that for some reason really just made me smile. She’s playing her double bass and it fits in so smoothly.
This switches from jazz into a bit of a prog jazz section, with an electric guitar solo at 0:54, for some reason this whole part reminded me of standing at the top of Greenwich Park near the observatory in the summer at sunset, it’s like I’m listening to the sun setting and watching the hustle and bustle down below. It’s an almost spiritual experience.
The Naïma Quartet is a jazz ensemble formed in 2016, led by the talented bassist and vocalist Naïma Girou. The group features John Owens on guitar, Jules Le Risbé on piano and Rhodes, and Thomas Doméné on drums.
