Single Review: “Good Day” – Titus Glenn

This song has the feel good factor from top to bottom!!! What did I just listen to??!! Gospel choir? Check. Piano playing a great upbeat part??? Oh yes. Bass giving me Motown vibes? Come on now. Oh and the harmonies… yes there are harmonies. This song just made me feel a hundred times better. I’m always upbeat anyway, but this has so much optimism packed in, and I love it. Track of the day? Probably a forerunner for track of the year for me.

Let’s break it down.

The piano in the intro is playing a gospel riff, and this continues through the song, under this there’s a rim shot being hit on the two and 4. It’s just to keep the singers in time, but even then they don’t need it because their vocals are well executed there are accents on certain words for example on “light”, “bright”, “today”… Also for the majority of the song there’s no harmony it’s sung in unison. It’s not until 1:41 that’s when the energy is taken to another level, and by this point the song is stuck in your head!

2:30 is the mark.  Drums and vocals. This is the lift! Having been raised playing gospel music this song just nails it!

In the tradition of “Ooh Child” by The Five Stairsteps and”I Smile” by Kirk Franklin, this song is uplifting, it’s designed to lift your spirits, and with a sing along chorus like that I think Titus has got this down to a tee.
