I remember when this came out, thirty one years ago, and it was put on a lot of chill out CDs specifically the Ibiza chill out ones which I thought was an odd choice because when I thought Ibiza I associated it with dance music. But then there’s also the need to wind down – and this was part of it. William Orbit turned a classical piece of music into an analog synth laden instrumental with an otherworldly feel, you could be going home after a great night or just waking up and meditating either way this provided that out of body experience. Which leads me to his other work, he gave Madonna that electronic edge with Frozen – that entire Ray Of Light album coming out of her R&B/hop hop phase of Bedtime Stories was a revelation – and she worked with him for good reason, he brought a whole new level to her sound. That was one of favourite eras of hers. William Orbit made the hairs stand up with interpretation of Barber’s Adagio For Strings and made you feel like you were not of this planet for a little while. Rest in peace sir and thank you.
