This is a great piece of indie pop! It starts off with a driving rhythm led by guitars, I think I hear an electric piano providing one chord at the beginning then it launches into the track properly. What I like about this song is the changes. At about 0:32 the pre-chorus comes in where the rhythm changes into half time, and the titular question is repeated.
Be careful this will get stuck in your head!
I need to shout out the vocals on this as the this is quite a workout, very powerful in its delivery as well adding some really cool harmonies to it.
The lyrics ask what to do just to keep someone happy, and runs parallel with the song in such a way that it makes me think of turmoil because of the way that the song bounces around.
Listening to this again, I have to call out the musicianship of everyone on this track, I especially like the fact that this features two guitar solos because up until 1:08 it’s been a muted guitar part, and then it comes back at 2:14, more slower and bluesy.
I love it!
Oh and of course there’s a cheeky dead stop at 3:10.
So who are Ah Honey? Well they’re from Australia, Sydney to be exact, and they formed in 2023, from what I can see online this is their fourth single release.
I hope to hear more of them.
