Marina Florance will always have a special place in my heart, as this year we achieved something that was a bucket list moment for me. BBC Radio 6 Music airplay courtesy of Mary-Anne Hobbs, and BBC Introducing Mixtape courtesy Tom Robinson.
She’s revisited the spoken word this time reading the book that she’s just published of the same title, this is her second book, and this makes a great advert for it, I love the fact that Marina’s using foley sounds for this for instance she uses percussion to illustrate the banging of a bass drum. Also for the chachacha she uses shakers, fire engines even sourcing a recording of astronauts.. There’s a little twist but I won’t tell you what it is!
What I love about Marina is that she is able to tell a story through her songs, whether it’s spoken word or just being sung. She draws you into a world of wonder and it’s beautifully done, this has put a smile on my face having listened to it a few times now.
Could this qualify as an audiobook?
It could. Marina certainly has the voice for it. And boy can she sing!
You can find details of the book on her website.
