Single Review: “Smoke And Mud” – The Kintners

Smoke And Mud – The Kintners

This song is so dark.

What do I mean?

Well, firstly the chord progressions give it that really bluesy feel.

This isn’t a bad thing.

I love this song, it’s been on my radar for sometime as it’s been on bandcamp and it was sent to me as a pre release. But this song is something different, it’s got the elements of country (Banjo, accordion, acoustic guitar, violin solo), vocals with a drawl… I love that drawl.

My favourite bit of the song is 3:35, lyrically it’s a nod to the gospel of Jesus Christ. That touches me spiritually. But also you get to hear the song in the sum of its parts. It’s only the 2nd of January 2022 and this song is already my favourite of the month.

Can I be absolutely honest?

This is the best song I’ve heard by this group.

And they’ve got a LOT of good songs.

So who are The Kintners?

Well, they’re a duo from Texas, Kelly and and Kerri Kintner, and they’ve been collaborating with other  artists in the indie world, and it’s worked out really well for them.
