This one starts off at a fast pace, the acoustic guitar kicks off things with a deceptively slow strum then the drums set the engine running! This is a driven track and the lyrics match the the pace –
“I’m not really here right now,
My mind’s taking me somewhere else,
It doesn’t feel the same right now,
It seems we’ve lost our way somewhow.”
This to me tells me that the writer is trying to find focus in their life, and they’re at the point of giving up and going home. But then things go half time for the chorus – great technique for arrangement by the way usually you get half time in the verse or the bridge.
The storytelling in the music continues because in the chorus the half time measure has a drag as the singer pleads to hold on and you feel the pull….
Genius.
