When I first heard this track my first question was….
WHO’S GOING TO PAY £15 FOR A KEBAB????
Pre covid there used to a kebab shop near my house that I used to treat myself to every so often, you’d get a large portion inside a pitta with your choice of toppings for less than a tenner.
Boy did it taste good.
They closed down during the lockdowns and I’ve never had one so good since…
But then GDKs – a chain of kebab shops have sprung up but they don’t have that kind of flavour that a good kebab you’ve been craving comes with. And it’s a little too clean, it’s got to be greasy.
Anyway enough talking about food!
This song is about a date, it’s got all the charm of a night out in the Queen Vic on a Monday night.
Nods to things like like “eau de weed and vape” made me chuckle as well as a reference to KFC’s 11 spices in the lyrics make this song very much a bit of a parody, even the little message from the environmental health dept with a notice to close down the establishment takes the comedy to another level.
Music wise, this has got elements of ska, the chikka chikka gives it away as well as the chromatic chords, the cockney comedic timing works so well on this. It’s probably one of my favourite tracks that’s been delivered to the inbox this year.
The Soap Company are a band – well actually no, that wouldn’t be the best way to describe them it seems they are a collective.
According to their twitter bio: “Chaos Is Order Yet Undeciphered. We’re a Band who also sound off about the best Music & Films.”
I like that.
They’re a South London crew.
This explains a lot being a South London native myself.
This is from their 20 track album which Is definitely worth checking out!
