Single Review: “The Way That I Love You” – The 7:45s

First up, I want to say it’s obvious where the influences are for this band. Is that an homage to Motown with the logo?

Very possibly.

The intro cements this even further – the piano playing the melody is higher on the scale giving it a fun playful feel, adding an octave under.

This is a full band participation, they’ve even brought in horns giving it that real punch, really felt in the chorus – I’d say Jools Holland would love this. The drums keep the groove with the bass, which I’ll come back to in a second…. The thing I want to talk about is the Hammond organ / I love my Hammond organs and this is really understated here but it really brings that bluesy feel to this track. The drums are tight, the ghost notes are there on the snare as well as ride cymbals in the chorus… MVP right here!!

There’s a little instrumental break at 2:08 with punches and everything even the bass adds some back up to the horn parts… it made me grin because the arrangements are genius! 2:28 had me hollering because of the way that the track switched up, because it heralded the end of the song and you know they were having a lot of fun with this! What a banger what a way to start the week!

The 7:45s are an original soul collective from Manchester on a mission to produce the perfect single.

Well.

This is a good start in my opinion.
