Single Review: “You Lost Out” – The Music Of Sound

This song is just gorgeous. With a line up change and the addition of Sherry Sahayaraj, The Music Of Sound keep their melodic flavours going but with a slight spice in flavour.

Let’s talk about the instruments first. It’s a simple arrangement, bass keeping the groove along with the drums with a slight variation in the progression every so often but enough to distract you. The drums are precise, with a tambourine pattern and what sounds like a woodblock under the snare to give it more punch.

Lyrically if there was a way to put into  song the  “big mistake” scene from Pretty Woman, then this is it. This is about a breakup, it’s probably the sweetest way to tell someone hey you screwed up and I’m doing better without you.

Neil tells me this is the first song that he wrote with Sherry in mind, and it works beautifully.

Now big news – later this month, Music Of Sound are releasing a remix album, featuring friends who have come together and put their own spins on the last album.

It’s good.

Oh it’s so good.

Music Of Sound is a cinematic postclassical dreampop trio featuring young Indian vocalist Sherin, English flautist and current BA Performance Student Elena Trent and veteran Welsh composer Neil March. The band was formed when Neil was invited to play the BBC Introducing Stage at Latitude in 2017 and has been through several line-ups and three record deals before settling on this exciting line-up.
