Oli Rockberger is back with a track that’s soul stirring but then that’s on brand for him. But he’s not alone he brings along Laura Mvula for the ride too. She reduces me to a blubbery mess with “Father Father” so her contribution here already told me before I hit play that this was going to be special. This starts off with, piano, kick and finger snaps over which Oli sings and challenges people in a rallying cry to pray for people affected by events in the 21st century- this is highlighted by the prayer for the soldier, people who are crossing in boats, the sick and the dying. It unites the polar opposites showing that they are in the same situation hence the title “We Are The People”.
2:27 onward is the part that got me, the layered harmonies the chord progression takes us to church, whether this is intentional I don’t know but boy does it move you.
