Hope you are as well?<\/p>\n All good here thankyou very much for asking!<\/p>\n What did you listen to growing up?<\/strong><\/p>\n Dapo: Before my Dad became a college professor, he was a musician as well, and as such, had a fantastic, vast and eclectic record collection! Jazz, gospel, R&B, classical, you name it, I was exposed to it all from when I was a baby. \ud83d\udc76\ud83c\udffb<\/p>\n Your breakthrough was working with John Legend on his \u201cEvolver\u201d album. You\u2019ve worked with some of the biggest artists in the last 18 years. What\u2019s been a standout moment for you in your career so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n Dapo: Every single project I have been honoured to be a part of, has been a journey into self discovery. I\u2019ve had several \u201cstandout\u201d moments, and it usually happens when I get to work with people I\u2019ve idolised all my life, but they treat me as an equal co creator. That feeling never gets old.<\/p>\n You play a variety of instruments what instrument did you start with, and how long have you been playing?<\/strong><\/p>\n Dapo: I started with the guitar, and I believe I was 12 years old at the time. Let\u2019s just say, I\u2019ve been playing for a while \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n What\u2019s your writing process?<\/strong><\/p>\n Dapo: It usually depends on who I\u2019m working with, or what I\u2019m writing for. Most times, it starts on the piano or guitar. I\u2019d usually \u201cfreestyle\u201d chord progressions, and hum melodic ideas (sometimes, I\u2019ve actually sung made up lyrics that ended up in the song). If I like the melodic ideas, then I would write words to those melodies. It\u2019s also a lot of fun when a collaborator is involved, because you get more ideas to explore.<\/p>\n You have given back to your community by teaching kid\u2019s choir, which is amazing. How important is that to you? <\/strong><\/p>\n Dapo: I\u2019m a strong believer in giving back. It\u2019s not only important for the recipients, but for you as well. I believe it helps to keep you human and keep you in touch with your humanity. It helps you keep your \u201csoul\u201d. You\u2019ll quickly realise that it\u2019s not all about you. There\u2019s more to the world than just constantly accumulating things (nothing wrong with that), but as with everything else in life, balance is key.<\/p>\n Dapo: Gee! Where do I start? \ud83d\ude02 My favorite gospel group was \u201cCommissioned\u201d, especially one of the lead singers, \u201cFred Hammond\u201d. I had so many favorites, but I guess I\u2019ll go with the song \u201cSecret Place\u201d, from the album \u201cNumber 7\u201d.<\/p>\n If you could produce any artist from the past who would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n Dapo: It would definitely be Michael Jackson!<\/p>\n Is there anything you listen to that would surprise people right now?<\/strong><\/p>\n Dapo: Yes, I listen to a lot of Metal, especially the group \u201cAnimals As Leaders\u201d! Fantastic writing and virtuosity on full blast. I also enjoy listening to the rock group \u201cMutemath\u201d.<\/p>\n What was the last band or artist you saw live?<\/strong><\/p>\n Dapo: I saw Chick Corea\u2019s \u201cElectric Band\u201d live! That was an experience!<\/p>\n What are you working on at the moment? <\/strong><\/p>\n Dapo: I\u2019m working with some incredible new artists at the moment.
