It was a long, hard and time-consuming process, but it was
worth every second we put in this record.

It’s an 11 track project, what’s your favourite track from it?

I think that there is not one track we can say is our favorite, because we’ve been taking a lot of
care creating an musical journey, within every track has it’s own important role. The whole album is
the “track” we love, because this creates the story we want to tell.

What were your favourite moments from recording it?

We rented a cabin in the French forest for each a week in the summer of 2019 and 2020. We
started to write the new songs there and had a great time, not only as a band, but also as good
friends. I think these two weeks turned out as the most important and fun in the whole process of
writing and recording the new record.

Furthermore we had a big challenge to make this record happen. Because of the lock down in spring
2021, we haven’t had the chance to meet each other and record everything in our place, as we
normally do. So we split up in three of our home studios to record everything (except for the drums)
simultaneously in only five days. With video calls we had some chats and coordinated the
recording. Having this challenge and getting such an amazing outcome, feels great. Even, if this time
was hard for making a record, it’s an experience we wouldn’t miss.

You’re a band from Germany, how did There’s A Light come about?

It all started with Jonas and David in 2010. They formed the group There’s A Light after a tragic car
accident, whereby the best friend of them died. In the beginning the band was a studio-project to
record some songs. In summer 2011 the EP „Khartoum“ were recorded on a weekend. Andy joined
the band for this record. After that Jan and Markus joined the band in 2013 to complete the lineup.

What were your influences starting out?

We are basically influenced by some great post-rock bands in the early times like Sigur ros,
Caspian, This Will Destroy You or Explosions In The Sky. But we never had the goal to copy them.
We always tried to mix the influences of every member of the band to our own style. We listen to all
kind of music, from extrem metal over rap to classical music.

Your tracks are very atmospheric and spatious how does a typical writing session begin for
you?

This depends on the situation. We don’t have a typical writing session. Sometimes we start with a
little melody, sometimes with the drums and sometimes with some synth sounds. But nearly 80% of
our writing process we are trying to put multiple ideas into one song. That is pretty challenging.

What has been an essential piece of tech for you in your recording process?

It’s hard to tell, because we are a band which is driven by technology and trying out new things.
However, our good old friend Jonas (which is also a founding member of the band), joined the band
again in summer 2018. So I would say, that synth sounds have changed our sound a lot.
So the Prophet 12, one of Jonas’s synths, is a essential piece of tech, wich made this record special.

You have been together for ten years, what have been standout moments for you during this
period?

For sure our headline tour in China in 2018. This was something now one of us dreamed about. This
was an experience we well never forget. However, every minute we have as a band is amazing,
because we are not only a band. We are friends.

The last two years have been a time to reflect, what have you learned about yourselves?

We learned that everything what we had in life before the pandemic was there for no reason. In this
time we learned that we shut be thankful for our everyday life and even that the small things in life
could have the biggest impact to the world.

Did you pick up any new skills?

Relating to music, we’ve been picking up new skills of writing and arranging our music. Also the
process of recording was a gib thing we’ve been growing a lot.

What are you listening to at the moment?

We listen to all kinds of music. From Metal to hip hop. At the moment we like the stuff of the British
band Nothing But Thieves. But we also listen to a lot of electronic music like Christian Löffler,
Bonobo and Jon Hopkins.

What are you looking forward to most in 2022?

Most of all we are looking the most is to go back to a normal daily life. But we are also looking to
go back on stage and play some shows. Not only in Germany, also around Europe.

<iframe loading="lazy" title="Spotify Embed: For What May I Hope?
