Club Brothers Acoustic<\/a><\/em><\/p>\nAdam: And we loved the experience, it was proper fun<\/em><\/p>\nRich: So i thought it\u2019d be cool to do it more often<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: we agreed and club brothers was born<\/em><\/p>\nWhat were you listening to growing up?<\/strong><\/p>\nRich: I was really into Queen and Genesis, me and my dad would have them on whenever we had a long drive. It was the best.<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: your dad is the best<\/em><\/p>\nRich: He\u2019s pretty cool<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: it was my folks vinyl collection that had me listening to Stevie Wonder, James brown, Michael Jackson etc that era got me in a big and way<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: Mine was a very different experience, my dad had an eclectic mix from Bonnie Tyler to the Corrs to the Lighthouse Family to Frank Sinatra.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\nRich: That is Such a random mix!<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: it was an odd mix but it gave me a love of different genres and when i got older and discovered the jazz and big band greats like mel torme, Ella etc and then gospel and soul, and then hip hop. If it grooved and moved me then i was a fan<\/em><\/p>\nRich: So you like everything?<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: Pretty much as long as there\u2019s harmony i\u2019m happy.<\/em><\/p>\nCongratulations on the release of Stay, how did it come about?<\/strong><\/p>\nRich: ah Thanks man<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: Well interestingly enough stay also started as one of rich Solo tunes, but he hadn\u2019t recorded it and we had just been given the opportunity to support americana act \u2018Wildwood Kin\u2019 on a few dates of their tour.<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: there was a problem though<\/em><\/p>\nRich: We only had four tunes that we\u2019d written at that point for club brothers<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: So we padded out the set by adding harmonies to some of rich solo material, and \u2019Stay\u2019 was one of those<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: but then we began to notice that the audiences would really react well to \u2019stay\u2019<\/em><\/p>\nRich: And Adam would teach the audience the tune in the chorus and get them to sing along<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: that\u2019s it<\/em><\/p>\nRich: what?<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: that\u2019s Adams usp, He\u2019s great as a frontman, he always communicates to an audience very well<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: so rich the ideas factory, Leigh the voice, and me the stage chat, i like it<\/em><\/p>\nRich: it\u2019s only taken us til question 4 to answer the first question\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: Ha anyway back to the actual question, yeah the audience were vibing \u2019Stay\u2019 so Adam suggested we made it the next single<\/em><\/p>\nRich: we reached out to a producer we know called \u2018Chris Tilke\u2019 who produces artists like\u2019 Clara Bond\u2019, \u2018Jonah hitchens\u2019 and \u2018Dead Ground\u2019 and he helped us get the vibe we wanted for a recorded version.<\/em><\/p>\nYour sound is full of beautiful harmonies, are there any particular songs that you find yourselves singing along to that you harmonise to naturally?<\/strong><\/p>\nRich: i love singing along to more than words by xtreme. there\u2019s a missing harmony that i love to add<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: I\u2019m a massive leon bridges fan so pretty much any track form his last album I\u2019ve learnt and singalong to<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: i harmonise to almost everything i hear<\/em><\/p>\nRich:\u00a0 <\/span>he means that too! not just songs literally everything, car alarms, police sirens<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: the wind\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\nAdam: if it produces a note i\u2019ll find that harmony<\/em><\/p>\nPre covid you played gigs, what\u2019s your typical ritual before going on stage?<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: a few vocal warm ups but usually we like to sneak out and enjoy the other artists playing<\/em><\/p>\nRich: also lots of guitar tuning<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: So much guitar tuning<\/em><\/p>\nRich: All the guitar tuning<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: They are tuning obsessed<\/em><\/p>\nRich: Adam doesn\u2019t play so cannot understand the torture of two out of tune guitars<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: My ears definitely understand\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: Hahaha<\/em><\/p>\nWhat\u2019s been your favourite moment from a live performance?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nAdam: We did a gig on the Wildwood kin tour at the Louisiana in Bristol that was pretty lush<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: Oh yeah the unplugged moment!<\/em><\/p>\nRich: So basically we got to the part of the set where we tell the story of the band and play the song \u2018Undone\u2019<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: But rich decided off the cufff that we were gonna unplug come off the stage in to the middle of the audience and sing it right there<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: it\u2019s a small space so the whole room fell into silence<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: you could hear a pin drop and so we sang to them in a really intimate way<\/em><\/p>\nRich: It was a special moment for us<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: and hopefully for them too.<\/em><\/p>\nCOVID 19 has impacted the creative world in a big way, how do you keep yourselves motivated?<\/strong><\/p>\nRich: Well we’re all lucky enough to have home studio set ups<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: a computer and a mic\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\nRich: Yeah pretty much<\/em><\/p>\nRich: so i\u2019ve been using the time to write\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\nAdam: Ideas factory, he literally never runs out<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: I\u2019ve been doing some remote recording for a few projects<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: and i just completed Netflix<\/em><\/p>\nRich:\u00a0 <\/span>i wish that wasn\u2019t true\u2026but it\u2019s 100% true<\/em><\/p>\nWhat artists are getting you excited at the moment?<\/strong><\/p>\nLeigh: i love Leon Bridges, but also i love Jamie Lidell, Rosie lowe too. There\u2019s so much good stuff out there at the moment<\/em><\/p>\nRich: i really like ‘lauv’ at the mo and at the mo i\u2019m going back to discover older acts back catalogs, so i\u2019m doing a deep dive on fleetwood mac and absolutely loving it.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\nAdam: i love a bit of ‘melissa Bel’, some ‘yebba\u2019 ,a bit of ‘vulfpeck’ and i\u2019m crazy about \u2018Lawrence\u2019 they are funky as and i love their groove<\/em><\/p>\nYou\u2019ve released an EP what was the writing process for it?<\/strong><\/p>\nRich: well i had some ideas<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: that he\u2019d then show us in demo form<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: And we\u2019d take that bare bones version and fill it with harmonies and arrangement ideas<\/em><\/p>\nRich: Once were all happy with it we then get the producer involved<\/em><\/p>\nAdam: The producer of the EP was an amazing guy called ‘Willie Weeks\u2019 who\u2019s doing a lot in the k-pop world at the moment<\/em><\/p>\nRich: Willie added his ideas and we managed to do the whole ep in three sessions so were really happy with that<\/em><\/p>\nWhat are you looking forward to doing next?<\/strong><\/p>\nAdam: GIGGING! in front of a real audience again<\/em><\/p>\nLeigh: that would be so nice!<\/em><\/p>\nRich: it\u2019s been so long now that we\u2019re absolutely ready!<\/em><\/p>\n
